Damage to your hardwood flooring can happen for a number of reasons. Normal wear and tear on hardwood flooring can dull the entire surface. Minor surface scratches can affect the look too. Additional damage from moving furniture, spilling liquids and pets stains is also quite common. While hardwood floors are typically very durable and long-lasting, the type of wood used, the stain and finishes, and amount of maintenance or neglect are key factors in how much damage the floors have endured and what it will take to repair and restore the finish and look. Calhoun has decades of experience to advise you on the right course of action to restore the finish and remove damage.

Repairing your damaged floors isn’t just for looks alone. Floors that are in poor condition can cause a number of hazards including slivers, toe stubs, tripping and even falls. Gaps and gouges in the floorboards also collect allergens and other harmful impurities contributing to poor indoor air quality.

If your wood flooring has reached an advanced age, has been subjected to heavy use, or it was improperly installed, repair will restore luster and protect your family and your floors. Get in touch with us so we can look at them in person, and advise you on the best course of action based on the severity of damage. With Calhoun Hardwood Flooring, you can expect the best look with 100% customer satisfaction.

Not sure what you need? We can help. Here are the most common methods of repair

One method of repair is to burnish and blend scratches back into the existing floor. In older floors repair may require sanding to a break-off point because an aging effect cannot be reproduced. Or, repair will require sanding the floor and replacing boards, and sections from wall-to-wall can be repaired.

Types of repair services include:

  • Scratch and groove repair
  • Split or cracked planks
  • Finish repair
  • Water repair
  • Board replacement
  • Gaping and Cupping Repair

Scratch Repair

The process to repair a scratch depends on the severity of the scratch. More serious scratches require sanding while minor scratches likes nicks or small grooves can be touched up to blend in with the surrounding stain.

Split or cracked planks

Using specialized, angled floor nails, we will rejoin the splits in your hardwood planks and use wood putty to mend the scar. Depending on the nature of the damage, sanding the surface and applying a new finish coat may be required.

Gaping or Cupping

Gaping is known as the presence of gaps between wood planks. Cupping is when the middle of your floorboards sink while the edges curl up. This type of damage is usually a result of excess moisture. Repair may include tightening, sanding, re-staining and refinishing the flooring.
